Dear Illinois NRA Member:
This is a very important election alert . . . I am not only urging you to vote for Bill Brady, but also to influence other voters in your community to support Bill Brady - a true friend of gun owners and hunters.
The election for Governor of Illinois is very important this year. We're at a crossroads in the debate over our Second Amendment rights. The enemies of freedom are stalled in Congress, so they are coming into states like yours to push their extremist anti-gun agenda.
Remember, even though the Supreme Court recently ruled that the Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental, individual right for all law-abiding citizens no matter where they live, we are entering a new era of legislative and political battles where the enemies of freedom will push the limits of the Court's decision. They will continue to push for every gun control proposal they can. The fight has just begun.
Gun registration, limits on the number and type of guns you can own -these are just a few of the restrictions on your rights they are pushing in state capitals.
And the Supreme Court is not done with the Second Amendment. As you know, our recent victories before the Court have all come by a 5-4 vote. The four dissenters have made clear that they do not believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms. If one of the five Justices who have voted to uphold the Second Amendment were to leave the court in the next two years, President Obama will name the replacement. And his nominee could change the balance of the Supreme Court forever. Our Second Amendment freedoms are just a single vote from obliteration.
That makes it even more important that we have a solid pro-gun governor in your state. We need to elect Bill Brady as Governor to hold back attacks on our rights at the state level - and we need Bill Brady to be ready to push for state-level guarantees of our rights if the precarious balance of the Supreme Court should tip. . .
Bill Brady consistently earned an "A" NRA-rating as a member of the Illinois Senate. Gov. Pat Quinn is rated "F" due to his opposition to Second Amendment rights. Quinn publicly endorsed passage of a ban on semi-automatic firearms, publicly opposed Right to Carry in Illinois, is endorsed by leading gun ban groups, and refused to answer the NRA 2010 candidate questionnaire. . . .
Sincerely, Chris Cox, Ex. Dr., NRA-ILA
